How are Myton Church putting their holiday club online?

  • We have pre-recorded various elements of our normal programme, including songs, Bible stories, craft ideas, challenges and general silliness from our socially-distanced up-front presenters. These have been collected into 5 video sessions, each about an hour long.
  • We will be making one session available on YouTube each morning from Monday 27 – Friday 31 July, and sending the link to all those who have registered their interest (by emailing mytonchurchholidayclub@gmail.com).
  • Each day’s session will remain accessible via the link and via the church website (mytonchurch.org.uk/holidayclub2020) until the end of August.

Will the holiday club be live-streamed / video-conferenced?

  • No, we are not live-streaming or using video-conferencing.  The pre-recorded approach offered the best opportunity to be creative, involve different members of the team and provide you with a safe and secure session.  It also means your child can watch any time that’s convenient!

Will there be any interaction between children and presenters?

  • No live interaction will be possible between children and presenters, although they will be asking the children to shout, sing, pick options and generally join in at home.  To safeguard against any inappropriate use, the ‘comment’ function on YouTube will also be disabled for all the videos.
  • Children can send in pictures, jokes, photos of their crafts etc to mytonchurchholidayclub@gmail.com at any time during the week, which the presenters will see, and each day they will record a short section sharing some of what has been received.  Items will need to be received by 3pm to be included the next day.  By sending these items to us, you are giving your permission for them to be included in the video recording.  Your child’s full name will not be shared.

Who is the online holiday club for?

  • The material is aimed at primary school children, but for once we don’t need to enforce any age limit!  If younger or older siblings want to join in, that’s fine.
  • Our holiday club is unashamedly Christian, but no church connection or background is necessary.

Does my child need to watch every day, or at a particular time?

  • No!  Children are welcome to watch whenever they want, for as many days as they want.  Once posted, the videos will be available until the end of August.
  • If your child chooses to send any pictures, photos, jokes etc to the team for sharing in the next day’s video, they will need to be received at mytonchurchholidayclub@gmail.com by 3pm.

How do I access the holiday club videos?

  • Register your interest by emailing mytonchurchholidayclub@gmail.com.  You will be added to our circulation list, and receive the YouTube link to that day’s video direct to your inbox each morning.
  • The links will subsequently be posted on Myton Church website (mytonchurch.org.uk/holidayclub2020), where they will remain accessible until the end of August.

Will my child need to do anything at home?

  • We will be including some craft ideas which children could try at home if they have opportunity.  These are deliberately fairly simple, so as to be accessible to the younger age-range.
  • If they wish, children can send in pictures, jokes, photos of their crafts etc to mytonchurchholidayclub@gmail.com at any time during the week, which the presenters will see, and each day they will record a short section sharing some of what has been received.  Items will need to be received by 3pm to be included the next day.  By sending these items to us, you are giving your permission for them to be included in the video recording.  Your child’s full name will not be shared.

What will we need for the suggested craft activities?

  • White paper/card, plus any other colours you have (ideally including red)
  • Scissors, pencils, pens, felt tips & sellotape
  • Lego/duplo/playmobil
  • Wax crayons including one the same colour as some paper you have
  • Paints and paint brushes (ideally including blue and yellow)
  • 5 cardboard tubes

Why does Myton Church run this holiday club?

  • The holiday club at Myton has been running annually for over 30 years, because we believe that everyone, adults and children, should have the chance to hear the Bible’s message about Jesus and make their own informed decision about what they believe.  It’s also really enjoyable to put on, with a great atmosphere of activity and teamwork!

What normally happens at a non-lockdown Myton Church holiday club?

  • Our holiday club normally runs Monday-Friday in the second week of the school summer holidays, 9.30am-12noon at Myton School, where we have comfortable capacity for about 250 children in Reception to Year 6.  Each morning is a non-stop mix of fun, games, songs, craft and Bible stories in a lively, friendly environment.
  • The children are put into groups based on their school year, with a team of leaders for each group.  The children will be in the same group all week, unless there is a particular reason to swap – although everyone starts and finishes the morning together in the hall.
  • In addition to the morning sessions, we hold a family presentation and BBQ one evening, and we take over the Myton Church service on the Sunday after holiday club, for a bit more fun, followed by a picnic lunch.
